Franklin D. Roosevelt "F.D.R." was born on January 30, 1882 and died in office in 1945. He married Anna Eleanor Roosevelt on March 17, 1905. He was a member of the New York state Senate, 1911-13; U.S. Assistant Secretary of the Navy, 1913-20; candidate for Vice President of the United States, 1920; delegate to Democratic National Convention from New York, 1920, 1924, and 1928; Governor of New York, 1929-33; and President of the United States, 1933-45. He was the longest-serving U.S. President, his terms lasting throughout the Great Depression and World War II. His portrait appears on the U.S. dime.
