A very smart first edition of this biography of John Coakley Lettsom with illustrative plates and vignettes throughout.

Lettsom was a quaker, physician and philanthropist known for his abolitionist stance on slavery in 18th/19th Century British Virgin Islands and for his founding of the Medical Society of London in 1773. His life is described here in great detail by physician James Johnston Abraham (1876-1963).

CONDITION

In cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally very smart indeed, with only some minor rubbing to the extremities. Internally, the book is firmly bound. There is some spotting to the endpapers but the pages are otherwise bright and clean throughout. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED.
