Elegant, ironic, sophisticated, cold and calculating is probably the best definition of Gail Patrick\'s femmes on the 1930s and \'40s silver screen. She was characterized by a rather unique beauty: She was tall, dark-haired, with long, thin arched eyebrows.Born Margaret LaVelle Fitzpatrick, Gail Patrick appeared in 62 movies between 1932 and 1948, usually as the leading lady\'s extremely formidable rival. Some of these roles include the second wife in My Favorite Wife (1940) with Irene Dunne and Cary Grant; Anna May Wong\'s sophisticated competitor in Dangerous to Know (1938); Carole Lombard\'s spoiled sister in My Man Godfrey (1936); and Linda Shaw, Ginger Rogers\' rival in Stage Door (1937). Her patrician bearing and luminous beauty also led to her being cast as the lead in films such as James Whale\'s Wives Under Suspicion (1938) and Robert Florey\'s Disbarred (1939).In 1947, she did an abrupt about-face and left her highly respectable career following her third marriage.Patrick retired from acting in films in 1948. Later, with her third husband Thomas Cornwell Jackson, she became a producer of the Perry Mason television series (1957–1966).She died from leukemia at age 69 in Los Angeles.— Biography From Wikipedia***************Verna Hillie (1914 — 1997)Verna Hillie (May 5, 1914 – October 3, 1997) was an American film actress. First recruited into movie acting by a contest, she went on to star in films for Paramount Pictures and other studios through the 1930s, before retiring from acting in the early 1940s.Hillie began acting as a teenager in Detroit, Michigan, where she got a part in a radio drama on station WWJ. Against her wishes, her mother submitted her photo to a national competition for the role of the \"Panther Woman\" in Paramount\'s 1932 film Island of Lost Souls. When Paramount contacted her for a tryout, she reluctantly agreed, but eventually came to enjoy the process. She lost the competition to Kathleen Burke, but the studio gave her a contract anyway, starting her with a bit part in Madame Butterfly. She became better known after her supporting role in Under the Tonto Rim in 1933. When Hillie contracted Bell\'s palsy, Paramount dropped her contract, but she soon recovered and began working for other studios. In 1934 she co-starred with Ken Maynard in Mystery Mountain, a Western serial film from Mascot Pictures. She then starred opposite John Wayne in the The Star Packer and The Trail Beyond for Monogram Pictures. She had some minor roles in movies for Universal Studios, such as I\'ve Been Around in 1935, but the studio stopped using her after she spurned romantic advances from production executive Carl Laemmle, Jr. She also appeared in the Broadway production of Night of January 16th in 1935.Hillie married radio emcee Frank Gill, Jr., in 1933. They had two children, but they divorced in 1935. Their split earned some notoriety because it happened around the same time as the divorce of Hillie\'s fellow Panther Woman contestant, Kathleen Burke. She retired from acting in the 1940s to focus on raising her children. In 1952 she married NBC executive Richard Linkroun. They divorced after 11 years. After her divorce from Linkroun, Hillie worked in health care administration for several years. She was later the United States representative for English author Barbara Cartland. She died in 1997 in Fairfield, Connecticut from a stroke.— Biography From Wikipedia***************Lona Andre (1915 — 1992)Lona Andre (March 2, 1915 – September 18, 1992) was an American film actress.Born Launa Anderson in Nashville, Tennessee, Andre attracted attention with her first films in Hollywood and was named as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars of 1932. After winning the Paramount Panther Woman Contest, she was signed to a movie contract by Paramount Pictures. When Paramount did not renew her option, Andre worked as a freelance artist.During the 1930s she appeared frequently in films, usually as the lead in \"B\" pictures, and by the end of the decade had starred in more than fifty films. In 1934 Andre was part of the cast of School For Girls along with Toby Wing, Lois Wilson, Sidney Fox, and Dorothy Lee and in 1936 appeared alongside Laurel and Hardy in their feature film Our Relations. In June 1935, Andre eloped to Santa Barbara, California to marry MGM actor Edward Norris. Andre filed for an annulment action four days after her marriage in Tijuana, Mexico. She was later married to salesman, James T. Bolling, and was divorced from him in March 1947.In 1938 Andre set a world\'s golfing record for women by shooting 156 holes of golf in 11 hours and 56 minutes on the Lake Norconian, California course. Her best round was 91 for 18 holes and her worst was 115.Her acting career was greatly diminished during the 1940s, and she made her last film appearance in 1949 in Two Knights From Brooklyn. After her film career ended she became a successful businesswoman and never returned to acting. She was interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.— Biography From Wikipedia
