Up for sale is a scarce example of THE KENYA SETTLERS\' COOKERY BOOK and HOUSEHOLD GUIDE, prepared by the Church of Scotland Woman\'s Guild of St. Andrew\'s, Nairobi, Kenya. Printed by the East African Standard in Nairobi. Third edition, published in 1935. 363 pages, with many inserted clippings and handwritten recipes, adding more dishes to the book.

This cookbook was published by British settlers and their descendants, during the period when Kenya wasunder British rule from 1895 to 1963. It contains hundreds of recipes for a wide variety of dishes commonly prepared inthe territory by the sizable British community there, with manyIndian dishes in addition to the usual British fare. The book also contains instructionson \"Hints for Safari,\" a section on Swahili and another on Kikuyu, and much more.

Also contains scores of ads for local and British-run food, cookware, insurance, travel and other businesses throughout the book.

The book bears the stamps of a \"GLADYS ANDREW,\" who ran a farm in Miwani, in Western Kenya, close to Lake Victoria, andlaterlived in Nairobi. In the rear of the book are additional handwritten recipes, and there are also several pieces of paper tucked into the book with additional recipes as well.

A \"well-loved\" and early example of this unusual British colonial cookbook, which was only first published in 1928. The spine has been taped, and the binding is quite shaky, with pages smudged from consultation. However, book appears complete with no loose pages.
