Description

Up for sale is a very nice Eversharp Skyline fountain pen with an Army Brown barrel and section. The cap is 1/10th 14K Y.G.F. (Yellow Gold Filled), as is the Derby - gorgeous! This Skyline has a very nice 14K Solid Gold Banner nib. I really like Skyline fountain pens. A very unique design and well made. The pen was introduced in 1941 by Wahl-Eversharp. Strikingly modern in appearance, the Skyline (originally called the Skyliner) was designed by Henry Dreyfuss, who also streamlined the steam locomotives of the New York Central Railroad’s famed 20th Century Limited. You do not need a very sharp eye to detect a strong resemblance between the locomotive and the Skylines!

I took the pen apart and cleaned everything ultrasonically. I even removed the nib and the feed from the section. I installed a new ink sac for maximum fill. Over-all length capped is about 5 1/4 inches, and about 5 7/8 inches with the cap posted, so this is a Standard size Skyline.

The barrel and section have the usual minor micro wear scratches, but no gouges or cracks or really any visible blemishes at all, except for some marks where the cap has rubbed on the barrel from screwing it off and back on. The Gold Filled cap and derby look excellent - no dents (one very, very tiny pin dent) or bad scratches - just the normal scratches and scuff marks from years of use. The filling lever is brassed a bit on the edges. There is almost always some brassing on the filling lever caused by the cap rubbing on it every time it is posted - a slight design flaw.

On the upper cap ring there is an imprint: \'EVERSHARP SKYLINE PAT. MADE IN U.S.A.\' Also, if you look at the clip where it intersects the upper cap ring, you\'ll notice two \'Check Marks\'. This was Eversharp\'s indication of a Lifetime Warranty, like Sheaffer\'s White Dot, or Parker\'s Blue Diamond on the clip.

The 14K Solid Gold Banner nib looks fantastic - almost new - just very light micro scratches which I needed a 10X loupe to see. Eversharp had a reputation for making excellent nibs of varying line widths and flex and this is one of them. This nib is very clean, a very smooth writer. I\'d judge it to be about a \'F/MF\' point and quite stiff. Tine alignment is spot on.

This is a very nice example of a vintage Eversharp Skyline Fountain Pen from the 1940\'s. This Skyline would make a great daily writer or a nice addition to your Skyline collection. This Skyline is in superb condition for a fountain pen about 70 years old!
