As young men during Italy’s pre-war years, Victor andGogliardo shared an enthusiastic passion for stamp collecting, succeeded onlyby their devotion to the girls they loved, and later to their marriage andchildren. A fond memory of the Grassifamily was the day their first-born baby son opened his eyes for the firsttime, and saw an album page of beautiful Italian stamps held in thehand of his father.

After the war Victor and Gogliardo expanded their philatelicpassions to world-wide stamp collecting. This satisfied Gogliardo’s desire for world travel, while Victor actually tookhis family from Europe to Australia, then to the Americas, traveling around theworld, his family lifestyle. This waythe two friends increased their world-wide collections trading philatelictreasures with each other from distant corners of the globe. From Gogliardo came post-war Europe, and fromVictor came the rest of the world.

By the 1960’s the two friends had come to be seasoned andexperienced philatelic collectors. Theyhad progressed from the traditional postmarked philately, to more sophisticatedcollections of pristine new stamps in beautiful series. Still, as mature philatelists, both Victorand Gogliardo kept a deep appreciation for postmarked items, which theyasserted, were items which had completed their true philatelic purpose.
