a VERY SOLID 1st pattern Type-I FIX BALE US GI M1 HELMET STEEL POT
with its orignial factory OD3 chinstraps factory bar-tack sewn onGuaranteed UNTOUCHED by any MODERN Helmet Re-builder! 100% VINTAGEBONE DOME SPECS:
-very EARLY McCord mfgr heat steel plate lot stamp: \'109B\' on the Hatfield Manganese steel sheet
circa 1942 (see Girard & Blais)-HIGH DOME profile....has the full punch draw on the manganese steel sheet WITHOUT any fissure cracks.
(during my collecting days, I could never understand why some helmet collectors will forsake a nice FIX BALE
STEEL POT if it had fissure punch cracks. This was a very common manifestation for most EARLY
FIX BALE helmets and absolute proof of its HIGH DOME full punch draw on the manganese steel plate.
Back then, I would collect any FIXED BALE STEEL POT, fissure cracked or not.....as especially today, any decent FIX BALE POT is getting increasingly difficult to find.)-has its original factory Stainless steel welded FIXED BALES -split seam FRONT on the 1st pat. stainless steel edge rim. the holding weld punch marks are
right up to the seam itself.
NOTE: this ca. 1942 example does NOT have the additional edge rim weld punches as my early ca. 1941
McCord FIX BALE being offered!) -Original factory OD paint on the interior....has age/storage/wear/spotting patina....
around the circumference near the rim, the re-paint can be seen. the inner dome area has
100% factory OD paint.
NOTE: the GI\'s partial laundry ID stamp which is ALSO seen
on the ARROW side of the chinstrap-exterior has period done re-paint (NOT done recently)....there is bald spot near front upper
dome quadrant....has slight very shallow buckling. exterior has scuffing, age metal patina, scrapes, and abrasion
wear marks thru-out....
-evidence of CORK AGGREGATE texture finish is present especially along the lower circumference band
of the outer dome (typical---very common)....in this case RIGHT ABOVE the edge rim.Specs on OD-3 Khaki CHINSTRAPS:
-ARROW side: nice early die-stamped out BRASS with the separate \'lift-bar\' (Girard & Blais
refer to this as \'raised stem bar\'....see below)
burnishing all gone....bare brass yellow alloy seen. the same condition for the
crimp-adjuster tab.
NOTE: GI\'s laundry ID ink stamped on OD3 canvas strap....same as in the interior
-khaki tan OD3 shade webbed canvas strap originally factory bar-tacked on fixed bales.
tiny bit of bale fold corner fray spot....otherwise free of fraying or cloth nicks....has age soiling
patinaHOOK SIDE:
-100% factory bar-tack sewn on the FIXED BALES.
-has the angle-slant cut on the claw tips.
