This is an original press photo. Secretary of the Navy James V. Forrestal (right) hands Jack Frank, New York Herald Tribune photographer, the Carl Thusgaard Memorial award for capturing first prize in the sorts division of the Press Photographers Association of New York exhibit, holding its 10th annual show at Radio City. The prize-winning picture was of a play at home plate in the PSAL City Championship baseball game last Spring, entitles \"The Old School Try\". The award was set up to perpetuate the memory of Carl Thusdaard, Ace Acme sports photographer, who was lost in New Guinea as a war correspondent when the bomber in which he was returning from a mission was host down by 9 enemy fighters.Photo measures 7 x 9inches. Photo is dated 09-28-1945.
