Registered airmail French diplomatic corner envelope printed CONSULAT GENERAL DE FRANCE A KUNMING, sent to the French Consul at Canton, bearing on front six 50.000 / 20.000 Yuan Sun Yat-sen regular stamps (1948) overprinted in 1949 plus 300 different-value adhesives affixed on reverse or in blocks of 20 and 25 copies partially glued, issued (20x 1.000$ Sun Yat-sen -1948) or surcharged in 1949: 4x 500 Yuan / 5.000$ parcel post stamps (1946) + 24x 1.000 Yuan / 10.000$ parcel post stamps (1946) + 102x 500 Yuan / 30$ fiscal stamps (1948) + 150x 2.000 Yuan / 300$ fiscal stamps (1948).
Great variation as China struggled with hyperinflation (extremely rapid or out of control inflation) and two currency revaluations.
Total franking, required in May 1949 for domestic surface rate plus registration & airmail fees: 697.000$; 306 pieces tied by ‘KUNMING 9.5.49’ postmark (datestamp in western script).
Postmarked ‘CANTON 10.5.49’ upon arrival at destination (Chinese characters in date portion).
