Throughout his storied career Ansel Adamstraveled and photographed extensively in America\'s National Parks whichprovided the sites and subjects for some of his most celebratedphotographs. From the Great Smokey Mountains of the East to the ruggedlandscapes of the West, Adams produced a body of work that helpedestablish him as one of the most important figures in the the historyof photography. This print is from a rare bound portfolio of Adam\'sfinest National Park work, printed in limited number in 1949 byVirginia Adams, Ansel Adams and Yosemite National Park. The 30 printcollection was subsequently published in 1950 and was intended toclosely approximate Adam\'s silver gelatin prints in look and feel, withthe individual prints removable for framing and display.Outstandingprint quality and extraordinary detail make this vintage \"Kromekote\"print look very close to Adams original glossy silver gelatin prints -certainly the closest we\'ve ever seen in a photo-mechanical print -only under magnification does the distinctive and high qualityphoto-mechanical process become evident. The plate is printed on highgloss Kromekote paper - an expensive and exclusive print surface in1949 and typically reserved for projects calling for the very highestin print quality and detail. This special paper combined with a highquality printing technique resulted in prints which are very close inlook and feel to glossy silver gelatin photographs. This print hasgravure like characteristics with some tonal variation of ink(accounting in part for the wide range of tonality in the print) andwas printed with extremely high quality offset, the likes of which arerarely seen in offset printing. Ourscans simply cannot do justice to the detail and beauty of the actualprint. High quality Kromekote prints are difficult to scan accurately -scanners have trouble with the ultra fine screen pattern and glossysurface, therefor diagonal or horizontal \"band lines\" will appearoccasionally within the scans - these digital \"noise lines\" are not inthe actual print itself.FewAmerican photographers have been as admired and honored as Ansel Adams. For more than fifty years his magnificent photographs captured thepublic imagination and helped establish photography as an art form. Some of his best known and most classic images were created of and inthe National Parks of the U.S.A.. In 1949 Ansel Adams, his wifeVirginia Adams and Yosemite National Park published an oversize boundportfolio containing 30 superbly engraved plates of Adam\'s finestNational Park images which is now extremely rare - this beautiful plateis from that scarce collection. This vintage photo engraving is guaranteed to be authentic and comes with a hand signedCERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (COA) with unique individual registered serial number from the Finephoto Vintage Archive &Database. Under magnification this plate shows a tight \"honeycomb\" grid, uniformpressing of ink and a wide range of tone - all indicative of a highquality photo engraving. The watermark word \"Finephoto\" does not appear on the actual print. We list beautiful original vintage photographs, photogravures and antique prints everyday! Prints are made bypressing suitable paper heavily down upon the inked copper plate whichhas been intricately etched to varying depths corresponding with theactual tonality of the original negative, This precisely etched platecombined with a fine \"honeycomb\" screen controls the amount of ink tobe transferred to the paper at any given point in direct proportion tothe variation of tone in the original image. The result is a truecontinuous tone print which combines many qualities of a traditionalsilver based photograph with a tactile feel similar to an etching, engraving or lithograph.Rich in tonal detail, the photogravure process produces delicatelyrendered shades for a look which is unique in the world of photographicprint making. In the early to mid 1900\'s photogravure was selected(when budgets allowed) for special high quality publishing andportfolio projects, but due to it\'s significant expense and labor, theprocess is rarely seen today. FromMan Ray and Ruth Bernhard to Brett Weston and Ansel Adams, many of theworld\'s most renown photographic masters have published their images inthe rich photogravure process.OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU: We don\'t just want to meet your expectations, we want to exceed them with each and every purchase!
