This is an absolutely fabulous vintage evening bag. The bag is French, by Herves,Paris which was located at 12.R. Dela Paix. It dates back to 1950, and was exceptionally well made. There is so much detail infused to this handmade masterpiece, it is truly a visual delight. Overall, the bag is in very good to excellent condition. The body, beading, crewel needlework, and romantic cameos are all in perfect shape. The only flaw is to the bottom of the lining, which has some rouge stains on it. Otherwise, there are no flaws or defects to mention. All the edges and seams on the outer part of the bag look great as well. Atop the black satin body is a lovely crewel floral design on the front; and the back has 1 small rosebud with 2 small flowers around it. The flowers are done in pink, blue, purple, yellow and lavender. The latch closure features a lovely cameo with a romantic scene on it. The top of the bag is magnificent with with a larger romantic oval cameo in the center. Surrounding the cameo is seed beads in blue, pink, lavender, and gold. The top beaded area is 4 in long, and 2 in wide. Inside the bag is a soft beige satin lining with a pocket on each side. One pocket reads "Handmade in France; the other has the Herve' signature and address in France. There is a chain handle with an approximate 5 in strap drop. The bag measures 6 in long by 9 and a 1/2 in wide, and the bottom portion is 1 and 5/8 in wide. This is quite large for an evening bag from this era. There is no adequate way for me to stress the wonderful craftsmanship of this evening bag; it is just to fabulous for words. Collectors and enthusiasts of this era French evening bags will see a bag such as this as the cream of the crop. It will make a marvelous addition to any collection, as I can't imagine anyone not wanting to own it. The piece has beauty, grace, sophistication and history all at once.
