A Very Unusual & VERYHard to Find Model!!!!

Elginwas founded on the idea of mass producing high quality pocket watches usingmachine made, interchangeable parts. Up until around 1850, watches were mademostly by hand, which meant that if a part broke, you had to find someone withthe tools and skill to make a new part. Elgin realized that there was a largemarket for good watches that could be sold and repaired relatively cheaplyusing factory made replacement parts that didn\'t require hand adjusting.

Likemost other watch companies (except Hamilton) Elgin made watches that rangedfrom the inexpensive to some of the Highest Quality Movements made, togetherwith Waltham (aka The American Watch Company) they dominated the vast middleground of the watch market.

Today,Elgin watches are popular with watch collectors. Because Elgin produced so manywatches and produced so many spare parts, they can still be easily bought andfixed, so even a 100 year old Elgin can be used, with care, on a daily basis. While mechanical watches can\'t compete with quartz watches for accuracy, thereis something about having a watch that is really old and still ticks..... that AQuartz Watch Just Can\'t Replace!!!

Thefirst time I saw one of these was years ago and my first thought was....OK,someone has taken an Elgin Hobart and added some\"Embellishments\"....But not so.....It\'s an Elgin Model, I have seen afew of these pass through .....but... in all of the watch shows that I goto every year.....this is the only one I have ever actually had in my hands.

Idon\'t know \"How Rare\" this beauty is but I would say it is definitelyrare!!! The model number in the back of the case doesn\'t match the crystal thatit references??? So maybe they were prototype\'s or maybe a special run.......IfYou Want One.......This Might Very Well be One of the Last Opportunities forYou to Ever get One!!!

Theunusual 10K Yellow Gold Filled Case (bezel and back) is in great condition withno wear to the back and minor rub to some of the high points on the bezel, nothing bad but just needs mentioning. The case measures 38mm\'s (1.496 in.) LugTip to Tip and 24mm\'s (.944 in.) Wide Not Including the Crown. The case backhas an inscription dating it to 1953 and the 17 Jewel Model 672 Movement issn\'d S55456....dating it to 1951..

TheDial has just been refinished and a High Quality 18mm Brown Lizard SkinLeather Band has been fitted that measures 7.5 inches from the buckleto the third hole. A New Old Stock Correct Glass Crystal has been fitted, it isCrystal Clear and Flawless. The movement was Just Serviced and it Winds,Sets and Keeps Excellent Time...Guaranteed!!!
