1950s Vintage British Kleeware 1920s Martin MB2 Bomber

A very fine and collectable plastic kit from the late 1950s by Kleeware Plastics of England.

Kit number 3189.

US Army Air Force Martin MB2 Bomber of the 1920s.

One of General Billy Mitchell\'s Bi-Plane Bombers used in the experimental Bombing of old German WW1 Battleships in 1921.

An Aeroplane of some historical significance as the experiment proved that a heavily armoured Battleship could be sunk at sea by aerial bombing.

Condition:

The crisply moulded olive green and clear plastic parts of the kit have been thoroughly checked against the instruction sheet. The kit is100% complete and is in fine order. The box also contains two instruction sheets, a clear stand and a nice decal sheet.

The high quality box has only very minimal shelf and storage wear. It is generally very fine, bright, clean, square and true. Outstanding for a box well over 50 years old.

Box sized 12.5\" x 5.25\" x 1.7\" inches.

Wingspan of model 11.375\"

(1\" inch = 2.54cm)

Extra Notes: This kit was produced in England in the late 1950s period using a leased American ITC tool (Ideal Toy Company, Hollis, NY, USA). I was told some years ago by Harry Kleeman (the son of the founder of the Company) that the production tools for these kits came over from the USA and were on loan for one month. Kleeware then did a year\'s worth of production in this one month before returning the tools. According to Burns guide 7th Edition (page 123) this model is scaled at 1/78 (for the kit to fit the box, as the size of the box on a retailers shelf was the crucial factor in those days). This is a rare kit in the UK and therefore must be a rare kit anywhere in the World as in all likelihood it was only produced (in Kleeware guise) for the UK domestic market.
