Original large-format edition of Flood Control and Navigation Maps of the Mississippi River, Cairo, Illinois, to the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana, printed more than 60 years go.This book measures 13-1/2\" x 20\" and has 154 pages. There are 62 full-page maps, drawn on a scale of 1:62,5000, or approximately one inch to one mile. Map details include aids to navigation, hydrographic information, and shoreline features. The maps are printed on one side only; they are blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side.There are 30 sheets of printed information at the rear, including harbor plans, mileage logs, and description of work in progress on various river improvements.This book was compiled and published by the President, Mississippi River Commission, Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army, Vicksburg, Mississippi. It is bound in stiff yellow wrappers and identified as the 21st edition, 1953. The scans below show some of the contents:Condition: There are scattered pencil marks on many of the maps from a navigator aboard a vessel which traveled along the river more than a half century ago. There is a slight curl to the pages and some minor wear to the spine.
