In 8 years of watching I have NEVER seen a 1957 Mutoscope VOICE-O-GRAPH record booth come up for sale - that's how rare these are now. A couple weeks ago I bought this 1957 Mutoscope record booth with the dream of restoring it back to its original glory - then as luck seems to always have it I was offered (and bought) a 1940s model record booth that came out of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. As much as I would love to keep both - I have room for just one. So, here's your chance! As the advertisements said "Record Your Voice! Hear it played back! Play it on any phonograph (or record player)! mail it Anywhere! The mechanism seems complete as best as I can tell, with the exception of the cutter head. The cutter arm and all is there - you just need to buy a suitable magnetic cutter head. (They come up on and are available.) The envelope dispenser is missing, and the optional 10-second introduction selection capability is not present, which makes this machine affordable. I know of a complete 1957 Mutoscope machine that sold recently for $20,000. If you make a replacement envelope dispenser from an old Exhibit Supply card vending machine, you are in business! The cabinet has been repaired, replaced on the bottom and top (again as best I can tell), and repainted at some point in its service life. I had planned on painting the cabinet with the original speckle paint color. Surprisingly, this machine is not nearly as heavy as you might think - I would guess 200 to 250 lbs? I leaned it over and layed it down on blankets in my garage by myself. Originally there were wavy green plastic in the side windows, which can be easily replaced with similar material readily available today. The side windows are plexiglass now. The glass in the front door is missing (and it looks like somewhat roughly removed), but plexi can be reinserted and the door easily repaired. The wood access door is missing on the back (you can see the opening on the photos.) The coolest feature of this machine is its ability to record a record in either 45rpm OR 78 rpm (the user selected it before dropping in their 50c. Suitable record blanks can be sourced - I will help the buyer with that.A readable copy of the manual comes with the machine.The VOICE-O-GRAPH machine is a MUST for any serious arcade collection - and will put you in a very exclusive club! Oh man, not much else to say about this machine but good luck, and please invite me over to cut a record once you get it restored! What you see is all that you get. There are a few instructional plates missing in the booth (they were missing when I got the booth), but again things like that can be made. No Shipping - pick up only.
