Joe was a competitive skeet shooter, but did not start it as a career until the age of 56. In 27 years of shooting, he shot more competitive targets than anyone in the world, 451,000 targets. He had traveled the United States, and was known far and wide in the skeet community. His friends called him \"Smokin\' Joe\" because of his ability to turn a target into a puff of smoke with his perfectly placed shots. It was not unusual for Joe to post a perfect 100 score in local shoots. Joe had been selected to State, Zone 4, and All American Teams throughout the years. The week before his death, he attended his 26th World Skeet Championship in San Antonio where he won several events in his age class. His final honor was his selection to the 2003 NSSA All American Senior Veteran First Team. The Florida Skeet Shooting Association honored Joe in 1992 by inducting him into the Florida Hall of Fame in 2000, by naming the second largest Florida shoot the \"JB Maszk Hall of Fame Championships.\" In addition to being a member of FSSA and NSSA for 29 years, Joe was a member of the Golden Eagles of the NRA, was a forty year contributor to the Sheriff\'s Boys Ranch, and was an Honorary Member of the Florida Sheriffs Association for 46 years. From Mr. Maszk\'s obituary:J.B. Maszk was born in East Grand Fork, Minnesota. He served his country during World War II as a military policeman in the South Pacific and later as part of the occupational forces of Japan. During combat in the South Pacific, his base was bombed. Joe escaped the enemy by hiding in the water for three days. After his rescue, he spent several weeks in a military hospital. Joe moved to Florida, after his military service, where he started Maszk\'s Workshop, Inc., a law enforcement supply company. Joe sold his company and retired in May of 1999. Joe was also an outstanding competitor in pistol shooting and won many awards across the country for his expertise in this field. ...He was buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, with full military honors conducted by the Lake County War Veterans Honor Guard.
