ORIGINAL CHILDREN\'S BOOK FRONT COVER ART \"POCO AND THE PARROT\".\"POCO AND THE PARROT\".MEDIUM - WATERCOLOUR ON ILLUSTRATION BOARD.ARTIST - Unsigned, but most likely by the American artist, Ethel HAYS. DATE - Circa 1962? or 1947?The artwork measures 10\" x 12 1/2\" on 11\" x 13 1/4\" illustration board and is much larger than the book cover.A lovely very bright original watercolour painting that was used for the front cover of a Children\'s book featuring Poco a small grey burro and a nasty parrot nipping at his ear.Ethel HAYS was an American syndicated cartoonist specializing in flapper-themed comic strips in the 1920s and 1930s. She also illustrated numerous other Children\'s books for the Saalfield company.CONDITION: Very bright and in Fine condition ready to frame!This artwork comes with 2 copies of the book, the first from 1962 for which this art was used as the front cover and the second from 1947 which is the original edition of this illustrated story. Hays illustrated the 1947 edition and this title was then reissued by Saalfield in 1962 in an abridged version with new cover art. Although the cover is not signed, the title page clearly states \"Pictures by Ethel Hays.\" It seems she may have been commissioned to create another original different cover painting for the 1962 edition or perhaps she had an additional painting that was not used in the original 1947 edition? [Unpaginated, 40 pages]. 6 3/4\" x 8\" spiral bound hardcover. Illustrated with lovely full color covers, interior color pages and b&w illustrations by Ethel HAYS.CONDITION: Light shelf wear along edges, previous owner\'s name inked out on inside front board, o/w a Very Good copy.The Saalfield Publishing Company published children\'s books and other products from 1900 to 1977. It was once one of the largest publishers of children\'s materials in the world.
