A scarce set of reprint editions of Percy Society: Early English Poetry, Ballads, and Popular Literature of the Middle Ages. Edited from Original Manuscripts and Scarce Publications. With decorative pieces and occasional illustrations integrated with text.
Volumes XXVI, XXVIII, XXIX, XXX. The original editions from which these volumes are reprinted were published between 1850 and 1852.
In four volumes.
Volume XXVI contains the third part of a three volume edition of The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer in a newtextedited by Thomas Wright, with illustrative notes.
Volume XXVIII contains: An Anglo-Saxon Passion of St. George; A Poem on the Times of Edward II; The Religious Poems of William De Shoreham; and The Interlude of the Trial of Treasure. Edited by Rev. C. Hardwick and Thomas Wright, and J. O. Halliwell.
Volume XXIX contains: Notices of Fugitive Tracts and Chap-Books; The Man in the Moone; The Use of Dice-Play; The Loyal Garland and Poems and Songs on the Assassination of the Duke of Buckingham. Edited by J. O. Halliwell and F. W. Fairholt. With music printed to the rear of the \'Songs\' volume.
Volume XXX contains: the Garland of Good-Will; Britannia\'s Pastoral: A Third Book; John Bon and Mast Person; A Dialogue in Verse. Edited by J. H. Dixon, T. Crofton Croker and W. H. Black.
CONDITION
Uniformly bound in cloth. Externally, in a lovely condition with only minor shelfwear. Internally, firmly bound. Bright and clean throughout but with institutional labels and ink stamps to all volumes.
