1965 Academy Awards VINTAGE OSCAR TICKET Walt Disney Julie Andrews Mary Poppins Product Description

\"SATURDAY\'S TOYS Presents...\"an original golden admission ticket toone of the mostmemorableaward ceremonies of them all... the 37th Annual Academy Awards Presentations on Monday evening, April 5, 1965.

This was the night when Walt Disney\'s \"Mary Poppins\"would benominated for thirteen awards... including the studio\'s first nomination for Best Picture... and the Best Actressnomination that would win Julie Andrews her first and only Academy Award. As \"The Sound of Music\" had premiered to spectacular acclaim only one month prior to this event... there was no other actress who even stood a chance at taking home that year\'s Oscar award!

Thisyear\'s Oscar ceremonies, to be held on February 22, 2015, will mark the 50th Anniversary of this magnificent night.

While Jack Warner\'s \"My Fair Lady\" walked away with the night\'s top award (and wasamasterful filmin its own right),this would turn out to be among the greatest nights in Walt Disney\'s career. Even whilelosing the big prize to Jack Warner, Walt Disney hadcracked the glass ceiling that had previously limited him to respect as\"only\" aproducer ofanimated films. Now, it was clearly evident to allthat Walt Disney had reached the top of his game. \"Mary Poppins\" would prove to be theperfect combination of a magnificent cast, original music and spectacular special effects that would setthe filmapart as a masterpiece; Walt Disney\'s own \"magnum opus.\"

Whileused ticket stubsto the evening\'s award ceremony at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium are rare, scarcer still is a never-usedticket to the event. This ticket (original price: $12.50!)was for seating in the auditorium\'s \"Loge\" section DD; Row N; Seat 121. Also included is the original envelope in which the ticket was delivered.

Ticket is 2.5\" x 6\"; in mint condition, perfectly preserved since the ceremony nearly five decades ago. The original envelope is 4\" x 7.5\".

The 13nominations (and 5 Oscar wins)for \"Mary Poppins\" that night included:

- Best Picture, Walt Disney and Bill Walsh, Producers

- Best Actress, Julie Andrews (WINNER)

- Best Achievement in Directing, Robert Stevenson

- Best Screenplay, Bill Walsh and Don DaGradi

- Best Song, \"Chim Chim Cher-ee\"; Music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman (WINNER)

In addition, the Academy\'s Board of Governors had awarded an Oscar statuette to Petro Vlahos, Wadsworth E. Pohl, and Ub Iwerks for the conception and perfection of techniques for Color Traveling Matte Composite Cinematography. Another irony... that even Ub Iwerks (animator of theearliest Mickey Mouse cartoons) went home withhis ownaward that night.
