This rare artifact is a movie prop playbill from the 1968Mel Brooks film “The Producers,” for the play title “Springtime For Hitler,”which was the subject theatrical production in the film about a theatricalproducer and an accountant who want to produce a sure-fire Broadway flop andplan to abscond with the investor money to Brazil. Of course their planbackfires as their play goes on to become a big hit. This highly acclaimed filmcomedy was Brook’s feature screenwriting and directorial debut. Mel Brooks wonan Academy Award for his screenplay of this film which has since gone on tobecome a cult classic among film aficionados. Brooks also adapted the storytwice more, as a 2001 Broadway musical “The Producers” and a 2005 film “The Producers,”based on the play. This is an incredible archive from the original 1968 filmthat in 1996 was recognized by the United States Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant,” and selected forpreservation in the National Film Registry.
