In 1972 schafte Anton Heyboer zich vijf harmoniums, een vleugel, twee piano\'s plus semi-professionele bandrecorders en microfoons aan. Dagen en nachten lang maakte hij muziek - nooit een noot les gehad - sprak improviserend teksten, nam alles op, soms eerst op het ene spoor, dan op het andere. Hij gebruikte alleen de zwarte toetsen, had stenen op de pedalen liggen, was verbaasd als later de twee sporen ritmisch met elkaar klopten. Na 150 uur volle banden gooide hij het hele instrumentarium achter zijn huis in het moeras en de banden in een kist.Toen hij me dat vertelde, voorjaar 1976, wou ik ze wel es horen. Dat gebeurde, ik was onder de indruk en opperde het idee van een plaat - half lacherig, half serieus. \"Ach, het kan eigenlijk wel\", zei de meester, \"een plaat die nergens op lijkt, dat is altijd goed, ontregeling moet er zijn\". Hij en de meisjes maakten een voorselektie, ik deed de eindkeuze, monteerde samen met Bart de Groot van Bovema. Wat valt er verder nog te zeggen? De plaat zal ieders (voor)oordeel over Heyboer weer eens bevestigen: Heyboer als geschifte charlatan, Heyboer als wijze westerse Zen-goeroe, Heyboer als publiciteitsbeluste clown, Heyboer als kunstenaar van wereldformaat. Voor mij is Anton de scherpzinnigste, geestigste en interessantste man die ik ken. Ik vind het ook weer wonderbaarlijk hoe iemand voor het eerst een vorm hanteert - stem, muziek, band - en meteen een vorm heeft, een geweldige zekerheid van diktie, ritme, poezie. Hier klinkt de taal van zijn etsen, datzelfde onhandige Engels, maar opeens met een heel andere en nieuwe adem. Wel, dat is wat ik er van vind. Anton zelf vindt dat hij in Toppop thuishoort.
