\"SATURDAY\'S TOYS Presents...\"an original hand paintedproduction backgroundand cel set-up DOCTOR SNUGGLES (1979). A one-of-a-kind treasure from the beloved animated series.

This particular background is 10\" x 14\"; and the cel set-up consists ofthree cels which are 9\" x 10.5\". The cels arepartially adheredtogether; likely from storage over the decades (separation is not recommended as it would likely damage the paint on the cels).This screen-used productioncel and backgroundis from Episode 2: The Fabulous Mechanical Mathilda Junkbottom. Here, Mrs. Nettles and Madame Dumpitoo are pictured... while Doctor Snuggles isworking on building a robot (Mathilda Junkbottom) to help Miss Nettles with household chores.

This animated children’s program wasanimated atTop CraftCo., Ltd of Tokyo, Japan; and was produced by Polyscope Production (the Netherlands) andDePatie-Freling.

Doctor Snuggles aired in the United States on theNickelodeon cable network from 1979 – 1980. The show consisted of only thirteenhalf-hour episodes. Lead charactersincluded Dennis the Badger; Doctor Snuggles; Knobby Mouse; Miss Nettles; Madame Dumpitoo; GrannyToots; Mathilda Junkbottom; the Rabbits (Benji & Freddy); Rickety Rick (the doctor\'s workshop); Dreamy Boom Boom (the rocket ship); Quiffy & Quaffy the Ducks; Messenger Bird; Hugo the Frog;andSnuggles’s umbrella.

The lead character was voiced by Peter Ustinov (also starredin “Blackbeard’s Ghost” for Walt Disney; and was among the few who would seeWalt on his final visit to the Walt Disney Studio prior to his passing on Dec.15, 1966).

Top Craft would perhaps be best known for its partnershipwith Rankin / Bass in creating classic children’s animation including TheJackson 5ive (1971); 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1972); Willie Mays and theSay-Hey Kid (1972); Tom Sawyer (1972); Kid Power (1972-1974); Frosty’s WinterWonderland (1976); The Hobbit (1977) and many more.

The animated television series was created Jeffrey O\'Kelly and was based on original art by Nick Price.
