German planchet toonie - quite rare

This listing is for a special variety of the 1996 $2 toonie coin that was issued by the Royal Canadian mint to celerate the launch of the new $2 coin that replaced the banknote. This toonie was minted on a German planchet or blank and although the difference is hard to tell the German planchet toonies are a bit duller than the canadian blanks. The german ones were used because the mint didn\'t have enough blanks for the new toonie coins. Therefore some german coin blanks were used and they were the ones put into this particular holder. This beautiful coin is 28 mm in diameter and weighs 7.3 grams. It is minted with an outer ring of 99% nickel and an inner core of 92% copper, 6% aluminum and 2 % nickel. The coin is in an informative pamphlet style display folder.
