andwas receivedinto theCatholicChurch...He wasquicklyordained as apriest
andcontinued asan influentialreligiousleader,
basedin Birmingham...In 1879, hewas created acardinalbyPopeLeo XIII
inrecognition ofhis servicesto the cause
of theCatholicChurch inEngland...Hewasinstrumentalin thefounding
oftheCatholicUniversity ofIreland
whichevolved intoUniversityCollege Dublin,
today thelargestuniversity inIreland...
