Exceptional large 19th century French Napoleon III guilloché sterling silver déjeuner chocolate cup & saucer by Parisian silversmith Philippe BERTHIER. Exquisitely crafted from the highest quality silver, both cup and saucer are gloriously decorated with bright-cut engraved tableaux featuring a sparrow perched on a scrolling cartouche, framed by finely detailed floral decor, and a spectacular trellis cup handle clad with reticulated fruiting laurel. Cup and saucer are stamped with the French Minerve 1st standard mark (.950) and maker\'s mark for BERTHIER who commenced trading in 1847 at 63 passage Beaufort. Condition is excellent, just a tiny ding to the saucer base to note.
