Beautiful antique pewter quart tankard with a side-pour spout by James Yates of Birmingham. Active as a pewterer from the 1860\'s to the 1880\'s. Marked on the right side of the spout with \"James Yates 1 Quart\" and on the left side with an oval containing a crown, \"VR\" and \"149\", which is the verification mark. Below this in the center of this side is stamped the work \"quart\". The handle has an applied thumb rest, and the spout is backed by a perforations for straining.

In solid antique condition, with a few age-related issues; there are two hairlines at the rim where the handle meets the body of the cup. Still very solid, but they literally are running along the border of the handle connection\'s shape. A slight flattened area on the rim\'s edge, and a smaller one on the base. Sits solid, straight and vertical. And of course, an all-over patina of spots, discoloration and dings.

The piece measures 6.25\" tall, and the top opening is 4.5\" across, 5 7/8\" if you include the spout. The base is 4 7/8\" in diameter.
