Offered here is an original, 19th century brass, horse drawn trolley bell with the 23rd St. Railway Co. route mark in raised letters around the skirt.The bell measures about 3 1/8\" tall, in excellent condition with a dark patina taken on with exposure to the elements over many years. Iron clapper shows some rust, as you would expect.This bell shows considerable wear from use, and even the iron clapper was replaced during the time this bell was in service! There is much wear to the lettering, but as you can see in the photos, completely legible. The bronze hole in the upper flange is oval shape, showing the wear that the rivet which held the leather strap made from the back and forth motion. This bell is my personal favorite. Its wear, patina and period repair tell the story of a bell that saw many years of NYC service The bell measures about 3 1/8\" tall, in excellent condition with a dark patina taken on with exposure to the elements over many years.
