19th century Split Ash Shaker work basket. Hand-wovensplintwork. Two bent hardwood handles are notched and woven in without anyhardware. A single woven splint wrap binds the rim to the basket.
Probably a cheese basket. Very open weave on the flat bottomto drain the cheese, and white milk residue on the lower half. From a NewEngland estate.
18” wide, 9” tall (not including the handles), 54” incircumference. Round rim with a square base.
Lovely patina. Very nice condition. Five broken splintson the flat bottom which do not diminish the appearance of this fine basket.
