This is an Outstanding Austrian Naval Officers Sword featuring some of the most Impressive Nautical Content I have ever seen on a Naval Sword. This beauty features a Bust of King Neptune along with his Trident and the Reticulated Basket features a Double Eagle Crest with two Beautiful Mermaids flanking either side and holding an Anchor. Etched marks to blade as shown. Shagreen grip in good order.
Missing the pommel cap at handle end. Blade is lightly mottled in a surface rust only, would clean and oil well, blade edge is dull. No Scabbard included. Sold as found- see the pics. Total length 85.5cm. Weight 580 Grams.

Just as an aside- Since Austria is a landlocked country, why does it have a navy?

Answer- It doesn\'t anymore. But back before World War I the Austro-Hungarian Empire controlled the port city Trieste (now part of Italy) and the Slovenian and Croatian coasts. Today I believe the Austrian military has two boats in the Danube!
