Extraordinary 19th century Bronze Double InkStand Ink Stand Desk set with two lions\' heads and paws figural pen or quill holders. All pieces are attached, nothing loose. The work weighs a phenomenal 11 pounds!The style and exquisite details seem to fit into early nineteenth century French bronze casting. There is no maker\'s mark that I can find. But the workmanship is outstanding. The mirror-image pen holders and inkwells would be very useful on a partners\' desk, perhaps that is what it was designed for. The decorative elements of foliage, vines and some fruit are repousse, or raised. The lions\' heads and paws that hold up the pen rests are very lifelike, even down to having claws on the toes, knuckles above that.Measurements are 20\"x 9\" x 5.5\" (51 x 23 x 14cms).I have other antique desk and writing examples available now.
