For Sale I have this beautiful painting and it certainly tells a story, however I just do not know of the story it\'s telling or maybe some kind e bayer can lend a hand, &I would very much like to Thank a kind er Michael for his informative e mail explaining the story of this Painting at the very bottom of the listing.*Michael is a PHD emeritus in history with one of the focuses being Church history.. If you read his e mail below he explains that the Man is Saint Peter praying for the Catholic Church and the Office of the Pontiff. I have not been able to find a signature on the work. I believe it was an important portrait painted by an Artist with much talent and to be quite sure that he is a very talented Artist and certainly a listed artist if his name were accessible. Of that there can be no doubt. It is Circa 1870 to 1880 and appears in Fine shape. It shows quite well having a very nice frame and with the Canvas in very nice shape although relined. He is sheathed in a Green felt Robe I believe with a Fur collar and he is crying and is holding a red cloth material with gilt design (representing the Vestments of a Pontiff). He also holds 2 Keys (representing the Catholic Church) . If the buyer cared for perfection there could be a slight repair made on the varnish that had dried unevenly over his pinky on his clasped hands, other than that the painting appears in fine shape and can certainly be shown without any repair whatsoever. The Canvas size is 26.5\" by 22.25\" and again I say this paint is ready to hang In case for whatever reason Michael\'s email does not come up I will repeat Michael\'s email next. \"It\'s actually the apostle Peter crying for the church (in this case the catholic church). The church is represented with the two crossed keys he is holding. He is also praying for the pope i.e the office of the Pope because he is clutching the vestments of a Pontiff.
