Description

Vintage 19th century paper mache spill vase, with chinoiserie decoration. Four Asian-appearing figures are grouped with typical Asian-style motifs done in gold against the black background. There are no marks on the base. This type of Asian style decorative paper mache was produced in England and Europe during the second half of the 19th century. This item is a cylindrical vase on a dome foot, 4 3/4\" tall, 3\" across the base and 1 3/4\" across the rim. I believe it may have been a holder for matches or paper twists used for lighting a fire.

Condition: the rim has a large chip and smaller areas of wear and nicks. The base is also chipped, and there is overall wear and age. Please examine the photos to assess look and condition, they are part of the description.
