Masterfully executed watercolor (on oval paper/card)of Russian Colonel of Imperial Guard Regiment with orders of St.Anna, St.Vladimir, Badge on St. George ribbon for 15 year of impeccable service.

Probably of titled aristocracy, judging by theorder of St. John of Jerusalem (Malta Cross)bestowed on him (at the time, for this award, it was necessary to prove noble lineage givenfor valor in battleof no less than 150 years deep).

Apparently unsigned.

Wooden ebonize frame with bronze insert and figural hanging device, oval glass.

Size of watercolor: oval± 6 1/4\" x 5 1/2\" (± 16cm x 14cm);

Size of frame: ± 9 1/2\" x 8 1/4\" (±24cm x 21cm).

Condition is very good with touch of verylight and even background browning. Colors are bright. Insignificant hairline on the top of frame.Glass cover has small shallow surface edge chip at2 o\'clock.

Unfortunately, names of the sitters hadbeen lost in time, but undoubtedly, could be reconstructed through some research based on uniform and sequence of awards by the buyer with a help of specific reference materials.

These portraits, before being in my family for 40 year, came as \"Russian officerand his spouse\", from the estate of late friends of ours, whose family, with deep roots in Russian nobility, emigrated from Russia to France prior the Bolshevik revolution.
