Welcome Fellow Vintage and AntiqueHallowe\'en and Paper Ephemera Enthusiasts! Many of you know us as longtime collectors and sellers of vintage andantique Hallowe\'en, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter memorabilia, antiquedolls, old toys, and lovely old china and glassware. For your all-year-long Hallowe’en loving pleasure we are HAUNTINGly happy topresent two PURRRRfectly wonderful large black cat diecut decorations that weremade in the 1940s and these two FRIGHTfully fabulous felines hail from ourpersonal collection. Please meet Percy and Penelope. They were the slightly later iterations ofthese German diecuts, made in the 1940s since they have their circular “Made inUSSR Occupied Germany” stamps. Bothpieces are also embossed Germany. The colors used for these two SPOOKtacular decorations are unusual and justmagnificent, including old brownish-orange, black, golden tan and metallicgolden bronze was used for their eyes. They are large, measuring 19 ½” high x 8”wide. They were both made from thick, heavily-embossed cardboard or pressed paperpulp and they are in outstanding condition for their age. Percy stands casuallyposed with hands in pockets and wears a fabulous costume with jaunty bowtie anddapper hat. He even has a feather in his cap! His pants are decorated with manysix-pointed stars and the band of his hat is also decorated with stars and acrescent moon. His longtime companion, Penelope, stands coyly with paws behindher back. She has matching six-pointed stars on her dress. Two just like these can be seen on page 155 of Mark B. Ledenbach’s outstandingbook “Vintage Halloween Collectibles; An Identification & Price Guide(Second Edition)”. Mark’s are the slightly earlier version made from 1920 throughthe 1930s. The exact condition is as follows: neither piece has any wear to the hanginghole placed by the manufacturers at the top of each diecut. Percy retains hiscardboard easel on the back, which makes him a stand-up. He has a littlecrackling to the black paint which is commensurate with his age. Please seephotos. On the reverse there is some indication that tape was used and this hascreated an area of surface lifts at his hat. This is reverse-side only! Themetallic paint used for his eyes is in excellent condition, with only a fewsmall rubs. So often, when metallic paint was used, it is the first area toshow wear. However, both of these kitties have stunning golden eyes. Penelopehas no easel. Again, tape was used on her reverse and a shadow remains there. This appears at the very top and at the very bottom of her paws on the reverse. There is a paint rub to her tail and only a tiny bit of crackling to her blackpaint at her tail – but this particular example is in amazing condition. This is an opportunity for you to own two incredible pieces of Hallowe\'en history! We think that this pair, in their WICKEDly wonderful condition and with theircharming and endearing expressions, would make an outstanding addition to anycollection of Hallowe\'en memorabilia and ephemera.
