DescriptionThese miniature trees are hand made and hand painted from a soft wood, and comes from the Erzgebirge region of Germany. They date to the 1920\'s, and are a type of miniature often called \"Flatzies\", because they are flat, mounted on bases, and can be displayed from either side. The wood is embossed and hand painted. These types of pieces were sold in play sets that included all sorts of animals as well as figures, landscaping and houses. The pieces were often used to decorate a train village, and are great for Christmas Putz villages, as well. These trees are unmarked; the box they would have come in would be marked, but the individual pieces not so much.

There were lead and other metal \"flatzies\" sold in other regions of Germany. Similar pieces were sold in the US during the Great Depression, but were made from paper and cardboard, and would slide mount onto small wooden bases.

These wood pieces are charming pieces of folk art! They measure 4\" tall x 1 1/2\" wide for the poplar, and 3\" tall by 1 3/4\" wide for the pine. They are in good vintage condition, with chipping and wear to the paint. . I have lots of other miniature German figures, so take a look!
