The U.S. Mint began the America the Beautiful Quarters series in 2010. This 2016 set marks the seventh year of the twelve year series. Issued by the San Francisco Mint, each bears the “S” Mint mark. The ATB Proof Silver Quarter is composed of .900 fine silver, measures 24.3mm in diameter, has reeded edges and weighs of 6.25 grams.

The obverse of each coin portrays the 1932 George Washington portrait by John Flanagan. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.” Along with the year “2016” the reverse design of these coins depicts five unique historic locations across the United States. This year they include Shawnee National Forest in Illinois, Cumberland Gap National Historic Park in Kentucky, Harpers Ferry National Park in West Virginia, Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota and Fort Moultrie at Fort Sumter in South Carolina.

Each coin in this set is graded PF69 by PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service), a highly respected coin authentication company. Proof blanks are specially treated and polished to ensure high-quality strikes. The coins carry a PCGS First Strike Flag label, indicating that they were received by the grading service within the first thirty days of release, and are designated DCAM, Deep Cameo, referring to deeply frosted images and lettering contrasting with highly polished mirrored fields.
