On offer is this very large and heavy English sterling silver trophy loving cup and cover bearing the hallmarks for Chester 1927 and the makers mark of S.Blanckensee and Sons Ltd. The trophy loving cup and cover is of very large size and weight . The overall height is 20.75 \" , the diameters are , base , 7.8 \" , cup top 9.5 \" and the handle width is 16 \" . The weight is 3538 grams , 113.76 troy ounces .
This trophy cup and cover is quite exceptional ! Not only is it tall and heavy , but it is beautiful as well.
The cover has a complex bud finial over an acanthus leaf crown. The cover swells out gently from under the finial crown to finish with an upright flange adorned with folded swags , each separated by pairs of tassels . The bottom of this flange gentles out to form the top rim. The cover sits so firmly that you can almost lift the whole by the finial. I stress ALMOST , just in case you are tempted to try it at home and then you drop it !
The cup body is deep and wide . The top rim has a triple band which gives it great rigidity . The first five inches of the cup body are virtually straight sided and devoid of decoration. Just a large area which can take any amount of inscription that you may care to have put on it . That is on both sides of the cup , not just one ! At the lower part of the cup body is a running band of foliar decoration contained within raised bands. Below this, the curved inward part of the cup bottom is decorated with a tapering band of repousse gadrooning , culminating in a simple domed top knop at the head of the stem.
The stem is short and simple , tapering gently to become the spread base of plain form ending with a domed land of tight foliar motifs , finishing with a short , plain , upright base rim.

Now for those handles ! They really do provide the exquisite finishing touch to this wondrous trophy cup and cover. They start life with bifurcated leaf fixings to the cup body , rising abrubtly into a pair of down facing leaf sheaths , thence up through pairs of rings emerging as subtle foliar cappings . These finish just over the zenith and metamorphose into bundled rods before vanishing down into foliar sheaths which taper gently downwards and inwards to finish above the knop at the top of the stem .

Little more can be said about such an excitingly beautiful sterling silver trophy cup and cover. It has all the right ingredients :
size, weight ,beauty,condition.
