Icon of Christ (Panto Crator) 4-1/4\" x 3-1/8\" [106.6mm x 78.4mm] I\'ve painted probably a few dozen icons of Orthodox faith. It was a moment about 30yrs ago that our parish priest asked me to paint an icon for an individual in the parish. He \'blessed\' the icon when it was finished and that began a moment of new meaning for my own personal journey not only as a Christian, but an artist who has a career in the design world as well as continuing my work as a professor of design/art at a private university here in Michigan. I later had met and worked for about 4 weeks with Geo Papastametieau in Greektown, USA mostly finishing certain portions of large panels for his commissions here in the USA. It was a very humbling experience and one that I am very appreciative for having spent the time. This icon was painted over a 4 week period, sometimes a few minutes sometimes an hour or more contemplating the \'copies\' for my inspiration. It is a process where I am not wishing or attempting to change anything, yet allowing the image to come from the panel rather than my hand. If this makes any sense to you then you\'ve understood some of the creative process that an artist goes through when working. You can see the progress in the other photo images that are on the easel. This icon when received by the winner of the offerding should be \'blessed\' by your parish priest as it is currently only an artwork and not an icon. The other one on the left side of the images was done in 1989 and it is with my son as his personal icon. I do have others and am able to take commissions. Please inquire. This icon is returnable if you do not wish to obtain it though, please understand as it is important that it receives a proper owner. I will donate a generous portion of the proceeds to the Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry whenthe new owner completes the transaction.
the spruce panel was cut, sanded and a canvas panel was glued to it. Upon drying for a few days, I then gesso the surface several coats and sand between each building up a smooth flat surface. I then apply a gold leaf \'paint\' and place the 24K Gold sheet(s) on that surface. I use Winsor Newton oil paint rather than Acrylics. When it is dry for about a month or more, I then seal the surface with a coat of clear varnish. Shipping USPS Priority $6.00 Domestic USPS International Priority at cost per location.
