ANTIQUEYOMUD-FAMILY TURKOMAN, 9-GUL CHUVAL FACING, Central Asian Tribal, Turkmenistan,2nd halfof the 19th century and coming infairly goodallover original condition for the collector. The exact size is: 2\'-5\" x 3\'-9\" (74 x114cm).Nine chuval gols are offset with \"erre\" gols for secondary elements all within an \"syrga nag ysh\" ivory border surround are accompanied by a great bottom \"skirt\" design. This \"elem panel\"carries a combination of motifs typical for old pieces. The bagpossesses wonderful wool quality. Nicely drawn, and aesthetically, rather open and spacious to the eye. A truly tribal, totemic-looking,chuval for the collector. Symmetrically knotted on natural ivory wool warps and natural brown wool wefts. All natural dyes with an exceptionally nice teal blue-green. The top end is complete and original (see photo 11). The sides have been reduced to the outermost guard borderwith an added 2-cord selvedge. The bottom ending is slightly reduced and now sewn secure to prevent any future loss of structure. This archaic Yomud family weaving is clean and collection ready. Itwill make quite an antiquetribal textile art statement when displayed as a wall hanging in the home or office. Compare the drawing of this weaving to thechuval published by Siawosch Azadi in \"Turkoman Carpets\", 1975, plate 33, dated 18th-19th century, and attributed to the Ata tribe, an Arab group that lived amongst, and later assimilated by, the Yomud.
