3 Signed, Hand Painted Porcelain Salt/Pepper Sets, Wild Rose & Gilt, Early 1900s:
$80.00

Three early 20th Century hand-painted and signed porcelain salt and pepper shaker sets. Two sets are hand-painted in a pink “Wild Roses” enamel design with leaves and stems on a light green ground with gold trim; they are signed on the underside by the artist – B. Hooe, who is believed to have been part of the John Sherratt studio in the Washington DC area in the early 20th century. The smaller two shakers are ball shaped, with gold painted porcelain caps that unscrew to fill and gold painted handles; the measure 2 1/4\" by 2 1/4\" by 1 7/8\". The other \"Wild Roses\" set stands 2 3/4\" tall and 1 5/8\" wide; they are stamped \"Made in Japan\" on the bottom and have cork stoppers. The third set is painted completely gold and stands 3 3/8\" tall and 1 1/2\" wide at the shoulder; they are each marked \"Sherratt\'s\" on the base, but are missing their cork stoppers. These pieces do not have any other maker\'s marks on the bottom, but came from a collection of more than 100 Limoges pieces rescued from a Washington DC area estate. See our listings of other porcelain “Wild Roses” pieces from this collection.
These pieces have some minor rub marks to the gold trim, which is normal for household porcelain that is nearly 100 years old, and the porcelain cap of one of smallest salt shaker has been broken and repaired with glue (see photo). Otherwise these pieces show no chips, cracks, breakage or repairs. Please see photos for more information about the condition of these fine pieces.
