3 VINTAGE CHINESE MUDMAN FIGURINES HONG KONG 1950s Sage with yoke + 2 fishermen:
$51.73

3 HongKong Chinese mudmen figurines dating from early 1950s bought when relativeswere living in Hong Kong. These are not modern copies as they have been in thefamily since this time. They ‘aresomewhat primitive and are glazed in vibrant blue, green, purple, yellow, red,and pearly white’ colours ( advice on how to tell vintage from newer).

Oneis a fisherman with basket and fish, standing 26cms high with a base of 12cm.It has the characteristic hole inside. ‘Mostolder figures have a hole in the bottom of the base that extends up inside thefigure. The artists used this hole to form or shape their work aroundtheir finger, hand, or stick’. ( guidance) It is in excellent conditionwith no crazing. It has a mark inside saying ‘made in Hong Kong’.

Thesage or elder figure carries a yoke with what I think are coin and peach symbols,to depict wealth and long life. He stands 27cms high, is 20 cms wide and has abase of 9cms. Again hollow inside with a mark, which I cannot decipher. The old man has a crack around his top knotbut it does not really detract from his beauty. No chips or crazing.

Thethird little man is a fisherman, who has caught a fish. (The photo shows thefish half way down the stick rod but it does move up to the end). He sits 9cmshigh with a base of 5cms and is not hollow inside. He is in excellent conditionwith no damage or crazing.

Theymake a fine collection together and will be packed well in boxes inside a box.
