Super neat threesome. True pieces of Art, Americana History, Entertainment History, Antique Toys & a great display quality item. It does not appear many of these are still around, very few show up these days outside of specialty sales. The father is about 14\" high and the mother 12-13\" and you can see size comparison to baby in pictures. These are not marked WPA, but have every appearance of being such. The Father looks to be a Peace Officer of some type.
I doubt a family pack like this exists anywhere else. I do not want to separate the group. A few of these puppets have sold for around $95 as individuals on & for more elsewhere, but I think very few people even know they exist. I found one threesome on Ruby Lane that sold for $1250, that was a Dentist & Two Tooth Brush Puppets. While topical, they were no nicer than the three offered here.
These were government funded puppets by the 1935 WPA (Works ProgressAdministration) pushed forward by Franklin Roosevelt in the New Deal. They were part of a Federal theator Project. You can Google & do your own research on the program, kind of neat history. The program was to supply employment for Theater workers & othersaffiliatedwith them during the depression.
The puppets show some wear, but still maintain a great overall appeal. I took multiple pictures for your consideration. there is some paint chipping and cracking on top of mother and babys head (as shown in pictures), but they still look great overall. the cloths have some stainging and a few small holes, but again are great for the age.
These are very rare puppets & I am pricing items at roughly 1/3 of what a threesome of WPA puppets sold for on Ruby Lane recently.
Also, I have found one female puppet somewhat similar to this one, and one male puppet with similar features, but no baby puppet anywhere in the web world on sale sites.
