Maison Jumeau , Paris France 1842-on. Jumeau dolls have a certain cachet and are extremely popular with collectors. Founded by Pierre François Jumeau , was taken after his death by his second son, Emile, that has studied to be an architect, but assumed his responsabilities. He was forced to take over the family business, and resolved to make France the world leader in the doll industry. The Metropolitan Museum of Art defines ART as “ including objercts that had a true sense of time and place”…. As are dolls perfect examples.
35\" (86 cm.) Bisque socket head with very full cheeks and chin ,blue glass paperweight inset eyes,thick dark eyeliner,painted long lashes,brush-stroked brows,accented nostrils and eye corners,closed mouth with richly-accented lips,separately-modeled pierced ears,brunette human hair hand-tied wig over cork pate,French composition and wooden fully-jointed body with plump limbs and straight wrists,wearing antique costume with decorated military-style jacket, red woolen skirt,woolen hat,undergarments,leather antique boot militaria shoes. Condition is perfect, excellent. Marks: incised size 16 (head) and artists check marks. And in blue ink printed Jumeau Medaille d\'Or Paris (body) by Emile Jumeau,circa 1885. Rare large size of the beloved wistful-faced child known as \"triste\",with lovely bisque,painting and expression.
HEAD: Antique bisque socket head that has no cracks chips or repair, neither restaurations .Painted facial features. Light tested and she is perfect condition. She has dramatic almond deep blue glass spiral paperweitht inset eyes, dark eyeliner, lushly-painted lashes, brush-stroked and feathered brows, mauve blushed eye shadow, accented eye corners, and shaded nostrils. Closed mouth with defined space between the shaded and outlined lips. Accented nostrils. Well defined applied pierced ears with blue coral earrings . Antique ORIGINAL curly tail tayed wig over cork pate, that enhances her sweet look.
Exceptional quality of bisque and painting,especially detailed about the mouth, original wig, cork pate, body,body finish, antiqueJumeau all original.
The Jumeau triste or LONG FACE JUMEAU , was designed by famous sculptor CARRIER BELLEUSE, the chief designer for Sèvres porcelain factory, and was special commissioned by JUMEAU to do this unique doll mold. Refered as “TRISTE” because of the doll’s sad solemn pensive expression. A unique piece of history!!!
This special mold was only made in sizes ranging from 9 to 16. Being the extreme sizes the rarest and most expensive to find.
CLOTHES: She wears great antique French all original . probably a special design from the Universal exhibition of PARIS, for a noble family or a renowned important military of government, No stains or holes, and white multi-underwear also original. just in great condition to age.
