THERE WAS INFLATION!

And these are the FIRST Inflationary Stamps issued in Germany! On the whole, they are much rarer than the later, smaller hyperinflation stamps with overprinted denominations. For one thing, not as many were printed and for another they quickly became obsolete because no one could imagine that even higher denominations were going to become necessary.

Inflation started in creep into the German economy as early as 1921 when it became necessary to print stamps in denominations of 1 to 5 Marks. By late 1922, the unthinkable happened. German currency and stamps had to be re-valued to reflect denominations of up to 100,000 Marks! (the first German 100,000 Mark banknote is also available - please email if interested).

You will receive SIX different large, lucious ornate art nouveau/early art deco design Inflation Stamps. The very highest and rarest denomination in the series - the bright orange 100,000 Marksis included!!
