5 Count \'em five- paintings by Richard DeTreville all in one sale. 1-5 from left to right:#1 is 4-3/4\" w by 9-3/4\" h and is signed in the lower left corner. This piece is framed (some scratches) and appears to be oil on board. It appears to be a scene of Lake Tahoe.#2, 3 & 4 These three pieces make up a triptych. They are unframed and unsigned and appear to be oil on (card) board. The lower right corner of the larger center piece has been bent over and shows a white crease mark. The upper corners also have smaller bends (1/2\" - 3/4\"). Middle section measures 14\" w by 9-7/8\" h. The 2 side sections measure 6-15/16\" w by 9-7/8\" h each. I\'ve seen other versions of this scene (some signed) and I think it\'s usually acknowledged that this is Lake Tahoe.#5 measures 5\" w by 9-1/2\" h. It is unframed and unsigned. Appears to be oil on either canvas or thin card which has then been mounted to a few laminated layers of board (paper not wood). This one has a bevelled edge. On the back side, someone has written in pencil what appears to be \"Yosemite Valley 19th c. D.T. This one could use new varnish as parts of it are dull and cracking per the images. A more mountainous scene with a stream in the foreground. These are what they are and make a nice little collection. I\'ve had them for about 20 years.Shipping cost may be less than shown depending on your location. I charge actual cost, no handling fees.

Listed California artist Richard DeTreville per Edan Hughes:

Richard DETREVILLE
1864 - 1929

Richard DeTreville was born in Beaufort, South Carolina on November 17, 1864 into a prominent, old family of French ancestry. His grandfather fought with George Washington in the Revolutionary War and at the time of his birth during the Civil War, his father was Lt Governor of South Carolina. Little is known about his art training; he was possibly self-taught. In 1892 he moved to California and settled in Stockton where he established a small newspaper called Det\'s Magazine. Shortly after 1910 he moved from Stockton to San Francisco where he worked as a cartoonist for the Park Presidio News. In his studio on Clement Street he exhibited his paintings as well as in local department stores and art galleries. His works were handled locally by Schussler Brothers and Sanborn & Vail. The last few years of his life were spent across the bay in Alameda where he died on February 25, 1929. DeTreville worked in oil and, on rare occasions, in watercolor. He was known to be an excellent portraitist although his portraits are rare. The most prolific of early California painters, his thousands of small landscapes are invariably of the San Francisco Bay area, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, and northern California. He sometimes signed his works \"DeT\". Member: American Art Bureau. Exhibited: White House Department Store (San Francisco), 1926 (250 oils). Works held: California Historical Society; Oakland Museum; Alameda Historical Society.

On closer inspection #2, #3 & #4 appear to be oil on canvas that has been adhered to what looks like mat board.

The frame on #1 has a couple of areas where the gold has chipped off on the edge (approx. 3/4\" to 1\")
