5 brightly colored woodcuts by Kunisada of Japanese ladies, mounted; mid 19th c.:
$580.00

Set of 5 colored woodcuts by Kunisada: 4 of ornately dressed single ladies, one of a well-dressed lady and young girl. Utagawa Kunisada (1786 - 1865) was an extremely popular artist in the ukiyo-e tradition. These 5 are mounted on white paper and are all in very nice condition, with remarkably clear and bright colors. (Only the lady in red, photos 4-5, has slight damage to the paper, bottom center: it appears to have been eaten at by a small insect; now mounted with a backing so as to be barely visible. The speckles on the backgrounds are part of the printed design.)
