The wing was activated on 8 July 1955 at McClellan Air Force Base, California and
assigned to the 8th Air Division (AEW&Con) -- it transferred to
Western Air Defense Force on 1 July 1957 and then to the
28th Air Division on 1 July 1960 -- On 1 April 1966 the 552nd AEW&C Wing
transferred to the Fourth Air Force -- it was reassigned to the Tenth Air Force
on 15 September 1969 -- it was reassigned to ADC HQ on 15 November 1969
The unit was redesignated the 552nd AEW&C Group
It was inactivated on 30 April 1976
This vintage patch was made back in 1962
It was designed for the Florida deployment of the 552nd AEW&C Wing
moved to that state temporarily because of the Cuban Missile Crisis
