Here are six royal quality fire-gilt double-struck Fiddle, Thread and Shell Dessert Spoons made by the famous London silversmiths, William Eley and William Fearn.

These heavy gauge Dessert Spoons were made in 1805 in fully hallmarked English Sterling Silver, and were heavily gilded / gold plated by the contemporary process of “Fire-Gilding”.

A handsome armorial crest of a lion holding a sword is engraved on the front of the handles.

These Dessert Spoons are overall in excellent condition, with only very light wear consistent with their age and usage, the gilding show minimal wear, but a little staining on two or three stems – see HANDSOME DOUBLE-STRUCK GILT FIDDLE, THREAD AND SHELL PATTERN DESSERT SPOONS BY WILLIAM ELEY AND WILLIAM FEARN 1805

These handsome Dessert Spoons measure six and three quarter inches long (6.75 ins / 17.5 cms) and they have a total weight of twelve ounces (12 ozs / 337 grams) of hallmarked sterling silver.
These Dessert Spoons are in lovely condition with no damage or repairs and the shell pattern still crisp and sharp. There is some light tarnish on a few of the stems.

The hallmarks shown above are the makers’ mark “WE” over “WF” for the famous silversmiths, William Eley and William Fearn, the lion passant guarantee mark for English sterling silver, the leopard’s head crowned town mark for London, the letter “K” the date letter for 1805 and the duty mark the head of King George the Third.

The hallmarks are crisp and clearly struck OVER the gilding, confirming that this is original.
