65 Civil War Patriotic - Ex Rare Patriotic Fireworks Advertising Cover(UNLISTED):
$400.00

#65 with a red Boston, MASS CDS and grid cancel in black on a canary covered envelope on a red patriotic design with a female and sword and an advertisement for Cutter & Austin \"Fireworks of Every Description\". Patriotic advertising is very scarce. It is not listed in either the Walcott or Bischel sales. The cover is accompanied by a letter and sever newspaper clippings about the war. The newspaper clippings are about 1) a newspaper owner that wanted to go to Baltimore as a delegate, 2)The composition of the Baltimore convention and 3) a very interesting article about the Spencer\'s seven shooter(carbine) and its effectiveness being used in General Custer\'s brigade.

The letter is about Mr. Waters seeking employment with Cutter & Austin and the letter reads as follows:

Boston, Tuesday Evening, June 17th, 1864

My dear friend,

Your letter reached me about 10 o’clock today, having beendelayed by the carrier came around in consequence of it not being directed with“Cutter & Austin”. Its contents was perused with much pleasure. I hopethose sutten lassies have cheered you up and that you may bask in there smilesagain as in the days of youse.

I have consulted with the firm to know if they were in wantof any more help during the fireworks season. I told them if they wanted a man,I could get them one, who could not be excelled. (By the way I did not name youas the one). They replied that they had secured all the help they wished atpresent, but should possibly need another man the last two weeks in the season, they have secured 3 hands to help us through. Had you just said the word whenyou was here, you would have probably made sure of the situation.

Nothing I can assure you would have suited me better than tohave enjoyed your company and society again. I miss you much and could wishthat it had been otherwise. I am located in your old quarters. Mrs. Whiting hasput in a bedstead and other furniture which makes it quite pleasant. I sent yousome papers on Monday which I trust you received. Anything that I can do foryou at any time will afford me a pleasure.

At the present writing I am unable to communicate you muchnews. I enclose you some scraps which I trust will interest you. Excuse brevitythis time as the darkness has overtaken me. Write often.

Believe me as ever, with sincere and great esteem.

Yours affectionately,

Henry L. Steene
