An interesting collection of seven sterling silver teaspoons made by Gorham in its Lancaster pattern, introduced in 1897. I\'ve bundled these spoons together in a single sale because they share the common feature of an engraved date and are all early examples of the pattern.
The earliest spoon, dated \'97 on the back of the stem, has a monogram (M?) on the front. The spoon engraved 1899 on the back has the name Carrie engraved on the front. The spoon engraved 1902 on the back has an engraved initial I\'m unsure of on the front ( perhaps an I or a J?). The 1903 spoon is probably a souvenir, with the date engraved on the front and the name Curwensville engraved in the bowl. There are two 1904 spoons. One just has the date engraved -- very lightly -- on the front. The other has the date engraved on the back and an initial that I can\'t decipher on the front. The seventh and final spoon has a hard to decipher monogram on the stem as well and is engraved with the following in the bowl: Best soft color young dragoon 1908 Hagerstown (possibly a prize for a pigeon at a show). Engraved on the back of this spoon is what I assume to be the name of the retailer, Kerper & Custer.
The spoons are roughly 5 3/4 inches long and are in overall good condition. There is a ding in the bowl of the 1897 spoon. The combined weight of the six spoons is about 4.2 troy ounces.
